PETRONAS PLANTING TOMORROW

Mukim Dandun & Mukim Simpangan

Recognising the need for a better quality of life for the poor in Pitas and Kota Marudu, Yayasan Sejahtera works hand-in-hand with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) by providing basic needs and community services, as well as livelihood and community enhancement programmes through PETRONAS Planting Tomorrow project.

Benefitting seven villages in Mukim Dandun, Pitas and three villages in Mukim Simpangan, Kota Marudu, the project started with the provision of water solutions to the villages, equipping the villages with gravity-fed water system, storage and filtration for a sustained clean water supply for the villagers that is nearer to their homes. Prior to the project, the villagers would need to walk for about one hour to the nearest stream to fetch water for daily use.

The school going children in Sekolah Kebangsaan Pinapak, Pitas also enjoyed the benefits from the programme through the school rehabilitation exercise, furnishing them with a more conducive place of learning. The existing community centre in Kampung Patiu, Kota Marudu was also rehabilitated to provide a suitable avenue for the community to run their group activities such as village meet-ups and skills training.

The livelihood programme is expected to commence in 2017 to help the villagers in increasing their income through agricultural activities.
